After 11 years of photographing and filming families, do you know what makes me most nervous during a shoot? Photographing couples. Somehow it feels like a big ask to have parents take their attention off their kids and focus on each other. I can envision the kind of image I want for them, but sometimes I feel too shy to ask for it.
Anyone with me??? 🙋🏻♀️
And yet, it’s quite possibly the most important image I give to my clients. The marriage I’m celebrating with my camera is the foundation of their family. At the risk of sounding idealistic, their photos together could become a totem of sorts…it might affirm their marriage on a good day and give them something to reach for on a bad day.
With Valentine’s Day just last week, I want to say a big thanks to all the couples over the years who were willing to be vulnerable to me and my lens. I hope to be bolder in 2024 asking for what I deeply believe your heart needs to see.
