I was reading this morning about event vs. emotional memory. I think it’s why I now shoot video every session. The concept of emotional memory helps explain why some memories seem to stay fresh in our mind for years while others become blurry and eventually fade. Emotion is the anchor that keeps memories alive.

As of this last January, each of my photo packages have included a mini-film like this one. I felt such a connection to this mama’s heart when she expressed wanting photos and footage of her littles playing in their yard and running in the sprinkler….memories of what a summer afternoon FEELS like for her. I guess that’s what I want for every film I make…not to show you what you did or what your life looked like but how it felt.
