I recently stumbled upon an audio recording of my girls, ages 5 and 3, chatting away (and competing for airtime) in the back seat. It’s insanely cute. I must have been fully present in the moment and aware that I’d want to remember their little voices one day. The recording instantly snapped me back to 2013. That’s the power of audio!

Imagine watching this film without audio and only visuals. Visuals tell us what to SEE, audio tells us how to FEEL. The longer I make family films, the more audio I’m including. Sure, I could slow all your footage down and make it a dream sequence…but aren’t the best dreams the ones where we fall in love with this real life more?

This little wonder is a walking sound bite. Every little thing that tumbles out of her is cinematic gold, and it’s hard to leave a single bit of it on the cutting room floor—talk about the power of audio! Maybe one day her mama will stumble on their video again and thank her lucky stars she predicted what her heart would need. I pray so. That’s what I’m here for!
