As artists, we wonder what legacy we’re leaving. Today I was reading in Consolations by David Whyte about the word “ambition” and how it leaves only a brief glimmering trace on the waters behind us…. by contrast a true vocation “calls us out beyond ourselves” and “breaks our heart in the process”. I love that.
This tender session…this mama’s words for her daughter on the brink of welcoming her second…broke my heart in the most beautiful way. I don’t know what legacy my work will leave, but I do know there’s no higher calling for me than to partner with parents in blessing their children. I feel such a deep purpose in it and was so grateful for the opportunity to celebrate this little one soon to become a big sister!
