We’ve known each other half a lifetime and I remember the day we met like it was yesterday. There was something deep and profound about you and I had this sudden conviction you were a book I’d never want to stop reading. And so all these years later we celebrated friendship with our little autumn tradition of a walk around Walden Pond. You let me take your photos and my heart beat wildly, hoping you’d look at these and see yourself as I see you.
My friend, you-are-beautiful. You have a beauty not just gifted you by good genes and a hair stylist you drive a ridiculous distance for. It’s honed out of pain and loss. I’ve lived some of that loss with you and seen you transfigure the ugly into beauty time and again. Your beauty isn’t skin deep but soul deep. You love others so intently and give of your time, energy and talents freely. You are a woman of incredible strength, goodness and wit, and I’m so grateful to walk this life arm in arm with you.
