Family Session: Winchester, MA | Boston Family Photographer

It’s such an incredible privilege being invited into moments that don’t belong to you.

My approach to photography is to “receive” not “take” photos. “Taking” photos smacks to me of stealing something not your own. Seizing moments as though you have some right to them. “Receiving” assumes a more humble posture. One that acknowledges that the family’s love preceded the session and asks only to bear witness to it.

In execution the two approaches are no difference…same camera settings, same choice of light, perhaps the same prompts. The difference is quiet, subtle – not seen in images but I hope felt in the heart of my clients. In receiving their moments…their beauty, I hope to acknowledge their uniqueness and to capture their spirit.

It’s my joy to photograph these friends each year and their spirit is one of joy and playfulness. These two beautiful, bright kids have inherited their mama’s energy and their dad’s tenderness. When I take photos it’s my love letter to a family. I hope you can read my heart for these people here.
